What Climate Scientists Aren’t Telling You About Global Warming

Allan Savory caused the slaughter of 40,000 elephants in a vain attempt to save the planet by stopping desertification. It turns out that he succeeded only in turning lush grasslands into desert. And, of course, killing 40,000 elephants.

Orphaned Elephant and Its Dead Mother

Savory loves animals. He grew up in Africa and adores elephants. So why did he kill them?

Scientists Often Do More Harm Than Good

Global temperatures are higher now, on average, than they were 100 years ago. I won’t deny that. Nor will I deny that human activity has contributed to that warming. It has.

The question is: which human activities contribute go global warming, or AGW (anthropogenic global warming).

Climate scientists like James Hansen labor to hide the truth. But they know.

The answer is shocking. And the solution is delicious.

In this TED talk, biologist Allan Savory explains how he and other scientists discovered that in their vainglorious attempts to improve nature climate scientists and biologists have, instead, nearly destroyed it.

Thankfully, Allan Savory had the humility to admit he was wrong and the tenacity to spend his life finding a solution to the problem his fellow scientists caused.

Desertification Before Dinner?

One of the biggest culprits is the US Department of the Interior. The United States government has promoted desertification—turning grasslands and forests into barren desert—by driving cattle and herds off of government property, believing that animals cause desertification.

But herds of animals that roamed grasslands for eons before man help create and support grasslands. In other words, animals don’t kill nature, people do.

The Solution to Desertification Is What’s For Dinner

The answer is beef.

Savory and his team have reversed desertification over 15 million hectares by introducing herds of cattle and sheep to deserts.

The process is simple. It works exactly as nature planned—before pointy-headed scientists decided they knew more about nature than nature.

Reversing Desertification Feed The Hungry, Too

In most of the world, only animals can feed the human population. The environment will not support enough plant-based nutrition no matter what you do.

But herds of animals can live off the land, and feed the people.

Savory has proven it.

Ask Congress To Reintroduce Herds To National Parks

The US government and its expert scientists caused desertification over millions of acres of the US by forcing cattle and sheep out of national parks. And the same government policies caused the drought plaguing western states today. Savory writes:

I have also found that only two things we do cause billions of acres of such land to exhibit predominantly bare ground between plants:

  1. Too few large herbivores (mainly livestock today) on the land demonstrating  unnatural behavior in the absence of pack hunting predators. This leads to over-resting the land while overgrazing plants.
  2. Overuse and misuse of the tool of fire

Neither droughts nor any other action of nature cause billions of acres of the US and the world’s grasslands to exhibit such high amounts of bare soil between plants.

Put the cows back where they belong.

Ask your US Senators and Representatives to watch this video. Send them a link to this blog. Ask them to promote good policy and reduce destruction of grasslands. Then, please tell the world you took action by writing a comment on this post.

Here is the text of my message to Rep. Ann Wagner and Senator Roy Blunt:

Did you know that we can improve the environment and stop desertification of America's grasslands by increasing grazing on national lands?

It’s time the Republicans get behind an important environmental cause that will actually make things better. This is good policy and good politics.

This is a matter of life and death for people and the planet. And it might prevent another 40,000 orphaned baby elephants.

Note: I replaced "climate scientists" with "scientists" in several places. Allan Savory is a biologist, not a climate scientist. He was not concerned with climate when he worked on the project that killed 40,000 elephants.

As the World Cools

Two quick global warming notes. Arctic Sea Ice Extend Growing

Not too long ago, Al Gore told German school kids that the North Pole, Santa, Polar Bears, and puppies would all be dead and rotting hunks of diseased fleshed in barren, desserts that were once the Arctic Sea by the time they entered high school.

Turns out that the Arctic Sea Ice Extent for 2007-08 and 2008-09 is pretty much in the average for entire history of measured sea ice extent (1979 to present).  A major sea ice recording center has been out of commission all of 2009, but a second center has had no problems.  MSM, governments, and lying crackpots like James Hansen ignore the fact that ICE IS INCREASING.  See this great piece on Watts Up With That.

James Hansen and the Never-Ending Winter

James "let's kill all the business people" Hansen and his merry band of doomsday AGW priests and priestesses visited the nation's capital today for "the largest anti-AGW protest since dinosaurs roamed the land."

As you might predict, the event was hampered and dampered by heavy snow and unusually cold temperatures.  Hansen encouraged the assembled children to break laws and destroy the economy.   (They're good at that last thing.)  Fourteen protesters were treated for frostbite and exposure.  (Kidding.)

So exhale that CO2 proudly, Americans!  The world is getting colder over year.

More on Hansen's Fraud

While my flaming headline ("Dr. James Hansen of GISS is a Liar and Fraud") received a fair amount of attention, people a lot smarter than I are carefully documenting the facts that led to my unavoidable conclusion. One such appears on the Telegraph today.  Christopher Booker (corrected link) notes that Dr. Hansen's GISS center is alone in seeing continued warming throughout the world.

Pointing out that laws supported by Hansen, Al Gore, and others will cost tens of trillions of dollars and severely limit freedoms throughout the world for the generations, Booker rightly contends that those proposing such a retreat from liberty be damn well sure they're right.

On this point, the evidence against Hansen is compelling:

  • Hansen's monthly temperature reports are wildly out of line with every other global temperature measure, and the delta increases each month
  • Three of the four global temperature measures have shown world temps flat or cooling since 2001, with Hansen the exception
  • Hansen's NASA rejects satellite temperatures, relying instead on ground-based mercury systems, while the other three would kill for the NASA satellite data
  • Satellite data--of both temperature and ocean levels--increasingly disagree with Hansen's reports
  • Hansen, unlike the leading scientists of the other three bodies, stands alone in calling for international dictatorship to combat global warming
  • Hansen is the most politically active of the leading scientists in the field
  • Hansen has a lifetime's reputation to lose if he's wrong

Booker points out the starkness of the contrast between GISS and everyone else who studies climate:

The other three all show a flattening out after 2001 and a marked downward plunge of 0.6 degrees Celsius in 2007/8, equivalent to almost all the net warming recorded in the 20th century. (For comparisons see "Is the Earth getting warmer, or colder?" by Steven Goddard on The Register website.)

The meat of Booker's piece, though, is the outstanding work of two scientists who someday may be credited as humanity's liberators from the despotism of global warming liars:  Anthony Watts and Steve McIntyre.

Watts runs the best climate and weather blog on the planet, Watts Up With That.  McIntyre is the man who has exposed more fraud in the global warming community than any other human being:

It was McIntyre who last year forced Hansen to publish revised figures for US surface temperatures, to show that the hottest years of the 20th century were not in the 1990s, as Hansen had claimed, but in the 1930s. He has now shown that Hansen had been adjusting almost all his pre-1970 global temperature figures downwards, by as much as 0.5 degrees, and his post-1970 figures upwards.

In so doing, McIntyre exposed Hansen as a fraud.  No reasonable person could conclude that Hansen was simply wrong, that he overlooked something.  As I said, Hansen has a lifetime of work depending on global warming's worst case scenario.  He wouldn't overlook a thing.

But were he to find, deep in the crevasses of his data, that his apocalyptic conclusions are wrong, that CO2 does not force catastrophic climate change, that the earth's warm spell of the last 100 years was mild compared to others, that a cool spell, not more heating, is upon us--if Hansen digested all of these things, then he would have to conclude that his 20 years of ranting make him a failure in what's become his life's work.

Given the choice of owning up to error or lying through data, it's pretty clear that Hansen lied.  He lied about temperatures in the 1930s, and he lies, every day, about temperatures today.  He gives cred to radical politicians who crave your freedom the way a vampire craves your blood.  He advocates a new, global theocracy built on the phony religion of environmental whackness.   He advocates riots to change the laws before nature proves him wrong.

It is still too early to suggest that the recent drop in temperatures shown by everyone but him [Hansen] is proof that global warming has stopped. But the fact is that not one of those vaunted computer models predicted what has happened to temperatures in recent years. Yet it is on those models (and Hansen's alarmist figures) that our politicians are basing all their proposals for irrevocably changing our lives.

For the sake of your freedom and your children's freedoms, stop James Hansen.  I called Hansen out big time, and I'm just a computer geek.  Perhaps more scientists will take a chance and expose Hansen for the fraud he is.

Obama Caught Lying Like a Hansen on Climate Change

TigerHawk decided to fact-check Obama's pontifical address to his German subjects concerning the messiah's "facts" about global warming (h/t Hackbarth).  Like Hansen and Gore, Obama enjoys lying to the people.  TigerHawk shows academic research that report sea levels falling, not rising, and Kansas not in a drought, but normal to exceptionally moist.

I'm not surprised to catch Obama in a lie; I am surprised that people continue to lie about global warming despite all scientific evidence (not doctored by James Hansen) to the contrary.

More Evidence That Al Gore's A Liar

This gem of bad news for environmentalist wackos comes from the U. S. Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works via Drudge:  Fewer than half of all peer-reviewed scientists who have written on global warming endorse the idea of man-made global warming.

Of 528 total papers on climate change, only 38 (7%) gave an explicit endorsement of the consensus. If one considers "implicit" endorsement (accepting the consensus without explicit statement), the figure rises to 45%. However, while only 32 papers (6%) reject the consensus outright, the largest category (48%) are neutral papers, refusing to either accept or reject the hypothesis. This is no "consensus."

Of course, Al Gore and his idiot followers claim such a consensus exists.  But the alarmists carefully select the scientists admitted into the room before they take the poll.

The report by Dr. Klaus Martin-Shulte uses the same data collection methodology as researcher Naomi Oreskes, whose 2004 report invented the myth of a "consensus."   Shulte, however, used a more recent sampling:  2004 to 2007.

Now that we know the sun is hotter and we know that most scientists do not endorse the IPCC position (written wholly by politicians, not scientists, by the way), can we please stop talking about carbon credits?   By the same token, would Al Gore please just go away?

Daily Tech has more detail.

And the Senate Environment Committee has this.
