Socialism Sucks. Here’s How to Avoid It In America

Some of the “cool” kids say they like socialism. Of course they have no emotional clue what socialism is.

nationalsocialism

Maybe they’ve read about socialism, seen the movies, and heard about it from their college professors—ya know, like the one who actually visited the old Soviet Union.

But those sources give only an intellectual view of socialism. You can’t actually feel it. And life, in the end, is about feelings.

Don’t believe me? Everything you do is an attempt to feel pleasure or avoid feeling pain. But that’s fodder for another blog. This one’s about the evil of socialism.

Here’s what life is like in a socialist country, told by someone who lived it, Thomas  Peterffy. He escaped Hungary during the Cold War. And he’s spending his money to make sure it doesn’t happen in America.

Misery Has Company

Like Peterffy, Friedrich Hayek lived under socialism—National Socialism. His message in The Road to Serfdom is similar:
Hayek’s warning is clear. He couldn’t be accused of insanity for describing how socialism, once begun, must end with death camps and gas chambers.

In the democracies at present, many who sincerely hate all of Nazism’s manifestations are working for ideals whose realization would lead straight to the abhorred tyranny,” he wrote.

In socialist Italy today, six scientists were convicted of a felony for failing to predict an earthquake—which is impossible. Hayek was right. And he predicted such tyranny.

Socialism Will Make You Evil

Hayek goes on:

To be a useful assistant in the running of a totalitarian state, therefore, a man must be prepared to break every moral rule he has ever known if this seems necessary to achieve the end set for him. Neither the Gestapo nor the administration of a concentration camp, neither the Ministry of Propaganda nor the SA or SS (or their Russian counterparts) are suitable places for the exercise of humanitarian feelings. Yet it is through such positions that the road to the highest positions in totalitarian state leads.

Hayek explains that the need for evil arises from the nature of totalitarianism—socialism, National Socialism, communism.

Collectivism means an end to the truth. To make a totalitarian system function efficiently it is not enough that everybody should be forced to work for the ends selected by those in control; it is essential that the people should come to regard those ends as their own. This is brought about by propaganda and by complete control of all sources of information.

Which Explain Benghazi

The Obama administration attempted to propagandize the Benghazi Massacre because totalitarians can’t be seen as wrong in the eyes of the serfs. Obama wanted you to believe that a YouTube video caused Ambassador Stevens’ death, Obama wanted to blind you to his own incompetence.

Ask yourself why the Obama administration wants complete control of the internet. Ask yourself why the Obama administration wants complete control of medicine. Ask yourself why we would tolerate such a totalitarian regime in America.

But before you answer that last question, you must ask yourself this: why did good people in Germany, Italy, Hungary, Spain, Austria, and many other countries tolerate the evils of socialism in the 20th century?

Perhaps because it was fed to them to bite-sized chunks under the guise of “efficiency” and “fair share.”

Vote With Your Vote

Right now, we have a simple prescription: vote.

Barack Obama’s life and language are festooned—if not infiltrated—with collectivism, socialism, redistribution. He believes the world is owed everyone’s fair share. Barack Obama has accumulated power, not just in Washington, but in his own hands.

Mitt Romney believes in the America we’ve always believed in. He is a leader who succeeded in business. Romney might not roll back the decades of decline in individual liberty, but he will at least interrupt our trip down the road to serfdom.

Kansas: Point of No Return

Tuesday in Kansas, President Barack Obama revealed his contempt for liberty. He declared that human beings are incapable of running their own lives . . . but, somehow, other, superior human beings are capable of running their own and others’.

He said that free markets have always failed, everywhere . . . ignoring most of the last 240 years.

He all but declared himself a Marxist.

I am depressed that America let this dangerous man into our government.

There are so many things to be done. So many.

But our president hates this country.  His speech on Tuesday was a point of no return for him and for us. We are the only people who can fix it.

Let’s clear our plates and our minds.  We have 11 months until the most important presidential election of our lives.

Let’s not blow it.

Who’s Lucky?

There’s a “special” school in St. Louis County. Its seniors graduated on last Friday. BenGraduating

How sad it must be for those kids. They’re not graduating from the district’s “normal” schools with their peers. For various reasons, they’ve been relegated to a school for misfits.

Seeing the building makes the bad feelings worse.  It’s a former grade school, crammed inconveniently behind a bank and a Taco Bell. Its Eisenhower era architecture stands out  amidst its Mortgage Boom surroundings like a dandelion on golf course. And the high school kids—some in their early 20s—appear freakishly large in the building.

The clown car impression intensifies inside the gymnasium. Its small, undersized basketball court barely holds the families of sixty or so graduates.

The scene was such a contrast for me.

I graduated with almost 600 other kids. Of them, I knew only a small percentage, really. At my high school graduation in the cavernous Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis – which I and all locals will forever call “The New Cathedral” – we sat in alphabetical order for the first time ever.  I had never met the two girls sandwiching me.  (One of them I would have remembered, trust me.)

I was lucky.  I graduated on time with my peers. I was never set back. I got by with a lot—a lot of misbehavior that earned expulsion for other kids. Like I said, I was lucky.

Or was I?

The ceremony at Fern Ridge High School moved me. Me and everyone around me.

Mr. Chris Oliver, an English teacher moving onto a new career after this year, served as the key note speaker. He talked about the wretched state of factory education in America, of course. He talked about the graduating seniors, too.

And he cried.  He paused to compose himself three, four, five times.

I cried, too.  It’s been a while since I’ve had a job that moved me. Chris’s job surely does.

Or did.

Chris said, “Fern Ridge should be a model for all schools in America.” I think he might be right.

At Fern Ridge, Chris was freed from the strictures of a “safe” curriculum handed down like divine instructions on granite tablets. Instead, this school expected him to use his skills and his heart to reach the students—students who have already rejected the factory model of education.

Chris was free, as he said, to “say something crazy” in his classroom.

That means Chris’s students were free to learn and to think. Fernies, as they’re called, do not memorize and regurgitate.

After his talk, Chris kicked off a Fern Ridge tradition. Teachers stood, one by one, and read an original Tanka to a student.

More tears, but lots of laughs.

(You can’t read Tankas to every student in a class of 600.)

The administrators and teachers on the dais beamed throughout the ceremony. Why shouldn’t they? I said that this was no factory high school. The kids were no factory products. They were, as one of the Tankas described a girl in the class, round pegs in a square world.

America’s education system couldn’t hold these kids.  Most were too intelligent and passionate to make it in regular schools where conformity, anonymity, and banality earn non-descript praise from a faceless bureaucrat.

Education in America—regular, factory education—banished creativity, expression, and brilliance long ago.  Like all socialist schemes, public education “covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd [source].”

Students with the courage to cut through that network of rules and stand above the crowd are sentenced to places like Fern Ridge,  or to Missouri’s Options program, where they can earn a diploma without corrupting the numb kids in the regular schools.

When my son accepted his diploma from the principal, I was proud, of course. I was even more humbled and a embarrassed. Not because my son graduated from an alternative school for kids who refused to conform, but because I didn’t.

Way to go, Ben.

Democrats Plan to Punish Voters

Democrats are planning to punish the American people with draconian, destructive legislation during the lame duck session following November’s election, according the Wall Street Journal.

That's why there have been signs in recent weeks that party leaders are planning an ambitious, lame-duck session to muscle through bills in December they don't want to defend before November. Retiring or defeated members of Congress would then be able to vote for sweeping legislation without any fear of voter retaliation.

obama-reid-pelosi[1]

Cowardly bastards.

Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin, chair of the Senate committee overseeing labor issues, told the Bill Press radio show in June that "to those who think [card check] is dead, I say think again." He told Mr. Press "we're still trying to maneuver" a way to pass some parts of the bill before the next Congress is sworn in.

In other words, these slimy frauds will retaliate against the people of this country by shoving more corruption down our throats.

If this doesn’t inspire every American to politically kick the teeth down the throat of the Democratic Party, nothing will. Let’s defeat the s.o.b.s so completely they couldn’t get elected dog-catcher in a town their family owns.

Get on our mailing list now!

Let’s begin with an enormous turnout on August 3 to send a clear message about ObmaCare by voting Yes on Proposition C.

From Labor Day to Election Day, let’s flood Missouri and Southern Illinois with the largest grassroots campaign for patriotic candidates in American history.  While we don’t have funding from billionaires to hire college kids, we have thousands of dedicated American patriots who will tirelessly.

Put in for vacation November 1, 2, and 3.  Your country will need you to get out the vote the first and second.  And you’ll need to sit back and smile on November 3.

Fight, fight, fight, fight like your children’s lives depend on it.

They’ve strangled Pursuit of Happiness.

They’ve targeted Liberty.

Can Life be far behind?

Days of Free Markets Numbered

destruction1The statists are moving faster through the Constitution than Hitler moved through France.  Today, Democrats in the House of Representatives voted to advance a bill to socialize medicine without debate.

House Democrats went on record again in favor of advancing the legislation while allowing only limited debate, which would hobble the ability of Republicans to wrest concessions on one of Obama's top domestic priorities.

Accelerating the Banana Republic

In the past week, the administration has encouraged political prosecution of former Bush administration officials, has opened the possibility of prosecuting CIA agents, has submitted legislation to give him sole authority over the Internet in the United States, and has released sensitive National Security documents to give terrorists an upper hand.

While the Tea Party movement concentrates on limited government and fiscal responsibility, the establishment of a Central American-style dictatorship in the United States cannot be ignored.  It's clear that Obama intends to secure powers similar to Hugo Chavez's and the Castros'.  By the 2010 election, Obama could own all major US banks, the auto industry, the healthcare field, most major newspapers, and, effectively, the Internet.  His opposition will be unable to fund a campaign or communicate with potential supporters.

In the meantime, Obama continues to undo free markets.  He has refused repayment of TARP funds from solvent banks in order to maintain control.  He has threatened to convert those debts into common stock, making his regime the dominant shareholder.  He has fired General Motors' board and CEO, replacing them with puppets.  He has imposed salary limits on executives of bailed-out companies and has threatened to extend those limits to all businesses.

Most cruel joke of all, however, has been played by Hitler & Co. on those German capitalists and small businessmen who once backed National Socialism as a means of saving Germany's bourgeois economic structure from radicalism. The Nazi credo that the individual belongs to the state also applies to business. Some businesses have been confiscated outright, on other what amounts to a capital tax has been levied. Profits have been strictly controlled. Some idea of the increasing Governmental control and interference in business could be deduced from the fact that 80% of all building and 50% of all industrial orders in Germany originated last year with the Government. Hard-pressed for food- stuffs as well as funds, the Nazi regime has taken over large estates and in many instances collectivized agriculture, a procedure fundamentally similar to Russian Communism.  [Emphases mine.] (Time, 1938)

Substitute "Obama" for "Hitler" and "United States" for "Germany," and you have a pretty good idea what we're headed toward.  The article explains why Hitler progressively siezed businesses and industries:  he needed them to for his massive social programs.  Hitler built a mighty military, true.  He also provided healthcare, food, housing, clothing, and work to every German, Austrian, and Czech.

Hitler created quite a national youth service program, too.  It gave young poor kids hope.  They wore uniforms and learned skills like picking up trash, marching, throwing granades, and spotting Jews.

Stay Involved

To combat statism, remain active in the Tea Party movement.  Print and save important information you find on the Internet.   Stay connected with the people you met on the Riverfront or Kiener Plaza.

The American Revolution did not end when Cornwallis withdrew.  It rages on against tyranny and despotism.  It was waned, gone soft, in the affluence of its success.  But the revolution is now in the gravest dangerous since the Republic launched.  History will record your contribution.  Make your posterity proud.

Flood the House Switchboard

Don't call just YOUR Representative.  Call 5 on Thursday, April 23.  Call early.  Lock up the switchboards.  Let them know that we surround them.

America, you just bought yourself 3 car manufacturers

Apparently Bush's plan to socialize all of America before leaving the White House is alive and well.  Some sort of a crappy deal has been reached. The plan includes a car czar--something that Toyata, Nissan, and Honda miraculously do not need--to run the auto industry like a DMV license office.

The last time a government designed, built, and sold an automobile like, it was called the Yugo.  I'll keep my SUV, thanks.

Once again, our last hope is the Republican Caucus--this time in the Senate.  Write today.
